Calling all Tranmere supporters!

You are invited to enjoy a fun day out and, at the same time, support the Club's registered charity, Tranmere Rovers In The Community, by taking part in this year's Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday, 18 May.

Funds raised by participants will be gathered in the name of the Sam Bencheikh Fund, which is incorporated as part of Tranmere Rovers in the Community.

Sam's first contact with Tranmere Rovers was as an eight-year-old attending one of the soccer schools. While at college, Sam was involved with the scheme on work experience arranged through his college course. Even when that work experience ended Sam's evident commitment to Tranmere and his work with us, that he continued to be involved as a coach on a part-time basis. His particular interest was working with and for all persons with differing disabilities.

Tragically, Sam died in a road accident in 2004. By way of tribute and remembrance, his family and their friends thereafter have dedicated themselves to raising funds in Sam's name and applying those funds through TRIC

The first goal of Sam's fund will be realised shortly when, after raising nearly £24,000, a new minibus will be delivered to the TRIC. This vehicle has been specially adapted to allow with disabilities to involve themselves in the programme of events being offered by the charity.

Sam's memorial fund have now dedicated themselves to raise a further £20100 to operate a disablity club within the Club's recreational centre. This will be used to replace the existing floor, update changing and office facilities and purchase special equipment to allow use of the centre by persons with any form of disability.

The traffic-free Wirral Coastal Walk starts at Seacombe Ferry and ends at Thurstaton some 15 miles later. Provision has been made however for official certification to be made for walkers who may wish to undertake as much, or as little, of the walk as they feel able.

It is proposed that all those participating on behalf of Tranmere Rovers in the Community should walk as a group leaving Seacombe at 10am. It is suggested therefore that they should arrive and register no later than 9.30am.

Tranmere supporters can register their interest at the Club Shop where sponsorship forms will be available for collection from Monday. Alternatively, supporters can contact the Community office on 0151 608 2354 and a form will be posted to them.

It is suggested also that walkers should take part in apparel that identifies them as Tranmere supporters, such as club kit. Special commemorative T-shirts will soon be available in the Club Shop for £5.00 if preferred.

Monies raised by participants should be returned to the Club Shop as soon after the event as possible. Any cheques should be made payable to TRIC.

With your help we would like to sustain Sam's mission and inspire, encourage and reward children, young people and others with disabilities and ensure that work continues.

YOU can MAKE a DIFFERENCE!!
