Ronnie Moore hopes his side can take inspiration from last season's result at Carlisle when they make their return trip on Saturday.
Rovers were one of only three teams to leave Brunton Park with three points last season with Craig Curran's goal all that separated the sides.
This time around the Cumbrians have three wins out of four at home, and the Manager admits he'd choose points over performance at the weekend.
He told Tranmere World: "The division is very tight. The top two have had a good start, but Carlisle are 7th on 13 points and we're only three points behind them. There's all to play for. Last season we went there, they hadn't been beaten at home and had a tremendous home record all season. But we won there, and there's no reason we can't go there and do the same again.
"We need to keep it tight. Last Friday was a freak game; when three goals go in like that it's very rare. With a bit of luck we could have taken something from the game.
"It's a results based game. I'd love to go to Carlisle and say we've been absolutely battered and wonder how we got the win. The icing on the cake is the performance. We need to turn performances into wins. If we keep working the way we are sooner or later it will fall for us.
"A clean sheet is long overdue. It will come. We're working hard and I think we've got as good a squad as we've had here for some time. But we've got to turn the possession into wins. It would be nice to win with a scruffy performance rather than coming away saying we've played well and wondering how we lost.
"We know it will be a tough game. They've got pace in Taylor, Myrie-Williams, experience in Graham and Bridges, and if we don't play as well as we can it will be a long afternoon. But we're in decent form and we're a match for anybody."
