Sonko joined Rovers from Walsall where he spent the 2007-08 season. He is able to play on both wings or the centre of midfield.
The Gambian international began his career at Real de Banjul in his home nation. He moved to Belgian side Anderlecht in 1999 before signing for top flight Dutch side Roda JC a year later.
He spent six seasons with Roda before spending a brief time at Greek side Xanthi in 2007. He joined Walsall last summer and made 37 appearances, scoring five times.
In January 2008 he was named the Powerade League One Player of the Month after scoring four times in six games.
