Tranmere Reserves suffered their first league defeat of the season, losing 3-0 against Carlisle at Brunton Park.

Rovers fielded a side containing seven Youth scholars with five more on the bench.

The home side went ahead on 15 minutes and doubled their lead on 52 after catching Tranmere out with a through ball. There were chances for Mike Jones, who hit the post, Terry Gornell, Josh Macauley and Carl Tremarco, but none were converted and Carlisle added their third on 70 minutes.

Coach Shaun Garnett said: "I can't knock the lads for work rate, they ran their hearts out for 90 minutes and deserved more from the game. It was a young side again and the goals we conceded were a bit sloppy, but they will learn from the experience.
