Shirtliff: "The Emphasis Is On The Technical Side"
Peter Shirtliff says Tranmere will turn their attention to the technical side of the game as the new season quickly approaches.
Rovers are less than two weeks away from the first game of 2008-09 season at Swindon Town, and Ronnie Moore's Assistant Manager says everything is going according to plan.
Shirtliff told www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "We're starting to get towards the start of the season, so the emphasis is on the technical side of things, the shape of the team and getting the players to know their roles within the squads.
"Set plays come into it a little bit, we'll do a bit today ahead of the Bolton game and possibly towards the weekend for Blackpool…little bits and pieces they'll become familiar with over the next ten days.
"The new lads have done well. They're a good, honest bunch. They've done whatever is expected of them and the best they can, and that's all you can ask. They've shown they've got abilities and hopefully they'll take that into the season.
"The 4-3-3 formation is a little bit different, obviously in terms of positional play on the pitch and things like that. But I think we're capable of playing a couple of systems. We've got players who can play 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and I think we could adapt to a few different scenarios."
